Deepening our Christianity

the Monday Newsletter of Paul Prins

Edition #6 · 29 May 2023

Blessings Reader,

Pentecost does not end the season of Eastertide. It transforms it. The resurrection and ascension of Jesus was exceptional. Yet, Jesus promised something more. That the Spirit of God would come to us. To fill us. That the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus would dwell within us.

Pentecost invites us to the Christian life. It invites us to live like Jesus, and with Jesus. To carry within us that trinity of life, death, and resurrection. That we are cherished and loved by God. All we need to do is accept the grace of God given freely to us.

Pentecost reminds us that we hold within ourselves the fullness of God. His tenderness, grace, and love. Jesus told the disciples they would do greater things than him, and He forgave his crucifiers. Oh, Father, help us to trust your spirit as you guide us away from power and self. May your kingdom of peace dwell within and through us more each day.

Until Next Week

From my Life

Thanks for your grace last week when I did not send a newsletter. The role I have during the Cannes Film Festival is every day from at least 9am until 6pm. One day I worked from 9am until 2:30am. This doesn't leave me any capacity to write a reflection, nor to assemble this newsletter. It was a good festival - and I even got to see 7 films!

I'm now sitting on the train ride back to Paris, headphones on, and very much enjoying a time of reflection. I often feel God's deep pleasure and joy when I write these. I hope may feel that when you read them.

Could join me in prayer this week?
I've been looking for vocational work since December and it has been rough. Ideally, I would get back into a leadership role within tech. There were a few positions I was a candidate for in February/March and haven't been seeing anything since. So to bring in some needed funds, I pursued some engineering roles. I have a final interview this week for one of those. They are very excited about me, but the pay range is very wide. Pray that we are able to agree on compensation so I can take this role.

Translating the Psalms for a Book of Hours

Translating scripture is a complex process. I pull back the curtain on the translation process of the Psalms for the Divine Office. From sources to some of the complexities involved in this interpretive process.

This short twitter thread is a crash course on Mary Magdalene. Dr. Elizabeth Schrader Polczer is a talented NT scholar who is doing wonderful work in the gospels. Let this short read help us restore the person of Mary Magdalene to her place in the Church.

A Prayer for the Week to Come

Lord help us to remember. To remember that the fullness of God dwells within us. To remember that we carry Easter within us. To remember that we can do more than you. Let us try to love deeper and wider than you. To forgive more. To give hope to others more. To live out of your same meekness and humility. Lord help us.

Deepening our Christianity the Monday Newsletter of Paul Prins Edition #30 · 11 March 2024 Blessings Reader, Reflecting on Blessings "May the Lord bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May His face turn toward you and bring you peace."Numbers 6:24-25 The Lord is generous to us. His grace, mercy, and love are lavished upon us in a way that breaks part of me as I try to comprehend it. It breaks me in such a beautiful way as I understand the places in my...

Deepening our Christianity the Monday Newsletter of Paul Prins Edition #29 · 4 March 2024 Blessings Reader, What is Hard to See Our sight is one of our strongest senses. We can often see things far before we can hear or smell them. Touching and tasting are deeply intimate in comparison to sight. There is proximity needed to touch and feel. Taste needs even more. We need it to enter our bodies for that sense to work. Sight is the sense that most often introduces and defines our world. It is...

Deepening our Christianity the Monday Newsletter of Paul Prins Edition #28 · 26 February 2024 Blessings Reader, Following your Love There is much talk in the Gospels about following Jesus. He explicitly tells us to take up our cross and follow Him. This is such a visual and physical first response. We know the story, and we know what happens Easter weekend. Jesus literally and physically takes up His cross, carries it to the top of Calvary, and is crucified upon it by the Romans. This brings...
